CONSERVATION WATER
The old, old saying “You
never miss the water till the
well runs dry’ - has had much
meaning for many of us dur
ing the past few vears Today,
water is used as if the supply
weie limitless The average U.
S family of four uses about
550 gallons a dav Yet the to
tal U S usage of water comes
to moie than 1600 gallons per
person To explain this differ
ence - to make a net ton of
rolled steel requires 110,000
gallons of water To produce a
ton of synthetic rubber re
quires 660,000 gallons of water.
Just to make a loaf of bread
- grow the grain, process it,
babe the bread and wrap it -
takes 500 gallons of water.
Then you eat the (bread - and
get thirsty.
