He presently operates the home dairy farm. i{i rt i f i >U 4-H Queens Chosen As dusk descended over the 4-H county field day at Long Park Thursday, (July 14), the spot light shone on two young ladies who will wear the crowns of junior and senior 4-H queens for this year. Judy Buckwalter, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David E. Buckwalter of Lititz R 3, has been active in 4-H work for seven years; she is currently president of the county council. Junior queen, Marilyn Krantz, twelve, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin B. Krantz,- New Providence Rl. A 4-H’er for four years, she has been active in horse and pony and cooking clubs. Fisher Tops FFA Hog Show Robert Fisher walked off with most of the honois at the annual FFA hog show this week (July 30) at the Lancaster Stock Yards. He said he did not mean to condemn artificial breeding, or detract from the gains in herd averages it has brought about He believes a sounder breeding program can be built around the use of fewer herd sires Through the indescnminate use of AI, breeders may bring entirely too many different genes into their dauy herds, he stated County Plowing Title To Kreider Nearly 200 specta tors saw the gleaming mold boards of Everett Kreider’s three-bottom plow turn over the dusty soil to win the 1962 county plowing contest Monday, (July 23). Kreider out-pointed nine other contestants to win the an nual event, held this year on the Roy H Garber farm at Lit itz R 3. Finishing second was Mervin Shelly, Lititz Kl, while Forney Longenecker. Lititz R 3, plowed out in third place. Scattered Showers Fail To Break Drought Thursday (July 12) brought the first mea surable ram to Lancaster- Coun ty in more than three weeks, but it failed to break the deepening drought conditions Although local farmers fail to see yields affected seriously at this point, most note that crop growth in the past month has been badly set back.
