Dechant said this week that “the action of President Johnson to invoke Section 22 to limit sharply dairy imports gives dairy farm ers renewed hope for an im provement in prices and more net return ” Dechant, who met with Pres ident Johnson recently to dis cuss the dairy import problem said that “the President, in cutting imports to an annual level of 1.011 billion pounds of milk equivalent, has dem onstrated his concern over the high cost of dairy production and has made clear his desire to help dairy farmers increase their return on mounting in vestment in herd and equip ment.” While recognizing the Pres ident’s action as an “important stopgap measure” Dechant said that “a more permanent solu tion than invoking Section 22 is urgently needed. Therefore. Farmers Union will continue to seek Congressional approval of the Dairy Import Act of 1967 introduced by Senator William Proxmire and which now has 57 Senators and 177 House sponsors. “The U.S. Department of Ag riculture has given important support in the action of the President,” Dechant said, “and Secretary Freeman has given me his assurance that steps will be taken immediately to curb the four-billion pound an nual level at which imports are running in 1967.” TEACH SPORTSMANSHIP Parents who permit their child to always win at games are doing him a great disserv ice, reminds Mrs. Marguerite L.
