New John Deere 1I
50 Side-Mounted Mower
The 1,800 strokes-per-minute cutting speed of the John Deere 50 Side-
Mounted Mower really drops hay in a hurry. The 50 is strong, too. Parts
are considerably heavier than those in other side-mounted
mowers. The pitmanless balanced drive keeps the mower '
running smoothly . . . quietly. You’ll find the 50 an easy
mower to maintain, too. See us for details on this addition
to The Long Green Line. Ask about our Credit Plan.

U. of Po. Gets Grant
For Insect Study
A basic study of chemical
compounds potentially useful
for controlling pests through
insect sterilization will be con*
ducted under a $24,892 grant
awarded by the U.S. Depart*
ment of Agriculture to the Uni
versity of Pennsylvania.
The compounds to be studied
are related to the chemosteri
lant tepa, which has been used
extensively in research on
chemically sterilizing the screw
worm fly, a destructive pest of
livestock. ARS scientists will
evaluate the biological activity
of the compounds produced by
the university study.
One of the problems in apply
ing chemosterilants is that diff
erent insects are susceptible to
different chemical agents. The
Pennsylvania scientists will try
to discover why this is so. Part
of the study wii be devoted to
determining the relationship be
tween the chemical structure
and the potency of prospective
sterilants.
