RECOMMENDED
According to the 1949 Year
book of Agriculture “Trees”
the American Sycamore, or
planelree, is not recommended
for street or lawn planting be
cause of its extreme suscepti
bility to anthracnose The year
book describes anthracnose as
“a fungus disease that attacks
and kills the leaves when they
are de\ eloping in the spring,
and also mtects twigs, causing
a disfiguring dieback”.
The USD A noted m the year- , TYPICAL of the appearance of the sycamore tree
