The Administrator of the
United States Department of
Agriculture’s Soil Conservation
Service, Dr. Donald A. Wil
liams. recently told delegates
to the International Conference
on Water for Peace in -Wash
ington, D.C., that an adequate
water supply is essential to a
stable world order.
“Vast fresh water resources
wait to be tapped,” Williams
said. “They include the water
supply that flows unused or
under-used to the sea; the wa
ter supply that is lost through
evaporation from reservoirs;
the waters that are so badly
polluted that they cannot be
used; the great store of water
under the ground: and the wa
ter that is available for reuse
when it is properly treated be
fore it is retu r n e d -to the
stream.”

Williams stressed the need for
cooperation among nations to
assure adequate water supplies.
“The United States Depart
ment of Agriculture is training
foreign agricultural workers in
our colleges and universities
as well as in Washington. We
are sending trained technicians
abroad to help teach other peo
ples to carry out their own ag
ricultural research, and to ex
tend the knowledge required
for modern agricultural devel
opment to the farming com
munities,” he said.
“But there must exist a true
partnership between the aid
giving and the aid-receiving
nations. It must be a close
partnership in which the rela
tive responsibilities are clear
ly understood,” Williams noted.
Williams cautioned that
while advancing technology in
the United States will help
other countries develop their
soil and water resources, “tech
nological development is a
gradual, long-term proposition
that makes heavy demands

Two new pesticide record
forms are now available from
the county extension cilice, ac
cording to associate county
agent Victor Plastow.
These forms, which will give
farmers a permanent record of
their pesticide applications
both on livestock and on crops
—will be good insurance, Plas
tow notes, in clearing a farmer
if he should ever get involved
with any of the government
agencies that are constantly
checking for chemical contam
ination of agricultural products.
