Aids District The Pennsylvania Depart ment of Highways cooperated in 1966 with the Lancaster County Soil & Water Conser vation District in the following conservation practices, accord ing to District Roadside En gineer H. P Kaufman. Seeding and Mulching A total of 364,400 square yards or 77 acres, of seeding and mulching cut and fill slopes was done by contract along six miles of new high ways. The routes involved were LR. 792-2 (US. Route 30), 36011 10 and 36012-4. Revitalization The grass on cut and fill slopes as well as on median and interchange islands was revitalized along 76 miles of State Highways Materials used included 19 tons of 8-16-16 fertilizer, 990 pounds of grass seed and 125 pounds of crown vetch seed. Chemical Spraying A total of 275 gallons of herbicide (24D and 245 T) and 320 pounds ot soil sterilant was applied along 380 miles of State Highways. Brush, Poison Ivy and noxious weeds were treated in this program. Goals For 1967 Highway Department goals for 1967 conservation work in clude: 70,000 square yards of slope stabilization, by contract, and revitalization along 50 miles of State Highways.
