The Meat Animal Evaluation
Center is operated under the
direction of the Pennsylvania
Department of Agriculture in
cooperation with the Penn
State Agricultural Extension
Service. Robert L. Kimble,
former associate Centre county
agent, serves as Director.
With six animals per pen,
the Center has facilities to
house five pens of sheep, 20
pens of swine, and 10 pens
of beef cattle. All ammals
on test are receiving a self
fed pelleted ration. AH man
agement phases are exactly the
same for each species. The
animals are weighed monthly.
“This service will benefit all
Commonwealth livestockmen,
not just those who have ani

out. “The results from all

Policies and procedures of
the Center are governed by an
Executive Committee under the
co-chairmanship of Dr. John C.
Shook, director of the State
Bureau of Animal Industry,
and Dr. Thomas B. King, head
of the Department of Animal
Science at Penn State. Two ad--

species represented and a Tech

in the field will assist the Exe

According to Kimble, farm
ers desiring to place animals
on test may receive informa

Animals will ibe selected for
trials during certain periods
of the year only in order that
a maximum number of tests can
be run at the lowest possible
cost. Animals will be purchas
ed at an established price.
