Improved Treatment
Saves Stillborn Pigs

tificial respiration developed
by a U.S. Department of Agri
culture scientist is credited
with saving up to two-thirds
of baby pigs which are ap
parently stillborn.

in USDA’s Agricultural Re
search Service, uses an ordi

lene) funnel to adapt mouth
to-mouth resuscitation to new
born pigs.
The flexibility of the plastic
allows Krehbiel to fit the fun
nel tightly over the pig’s nose
and mouth. Then he blows
into the stem, forcing air into
the lungs of the nonbreathing
