breed of beef cattle, making
a total of live, at the 10th
Pennsylvania. Livestock Ex
position. Nov 7-11 in the State
Farm Show Building, accoiding

Other beef breeds in the
show will be Angus, Hereford,
Polled Hereford and Shorthorn
McCulloch said inclusion of
Charolais in the competitive
classes may make the beef divi-
sion the largest in the exposi

Henderson indicated entries
may total 100 head. They will
include bulls and females in
breeding classes and steers.
The association will pay one
half of an estimated $2,600 in
premiums. In addition, it is
offering $250 to grand cham
pionship winners in both the
junior and open classes pro
vided they show Charolais.
This will be the second ap
pearance of Charolais in the
show. Ten head, most of them
fiom Texas, comprised a spec
ial non-competitive display in
1962.

Charolais is used for both milk
and meat production. It ori
ginated in France where it
formerly was used also as a
beast of burden.
They are off-white in color,
of large frame, and attain un
usual weights. Bulls range up
to nearly 3,000 pounds.
They aie used extensively in
cross bleeding, and transmit
to offspring, Morgan explained,
a hybrid vigor that enables
the young to make rapid gams
in weight
