1.5 million head, up about

Ready-to-cook movement
sharply reduced as feature
activity for next week was
limited.
Delivered prices generally
slightly lower and very com
petitive with other producing
areas.
Estimated slaughter for
Friday and Saturday, 779,000
bead, compared to one million
head last weekend.
In the 24 hours preceding
market close on Friday, prices
paid at farms ranged 19.0-
20.9 cents per lb. with pur
chases reported at 954,000
head.

On Active Year
The Extension Service con
tinues to be interested in bet
ter soil and water manage
ment in all county farms and
throughout the urban and
suburban areas, Lancaster
County Agent M. M. Smith
reported. During the year,
several farmers were assisted
in establishing contour strip
ping on their farms covering
approximately 200 acres. In
addition, a numiber of farms
continue to operate as dem
onstration faring in soil ero
sion control.
To present the importance
of improved practices in con
serving 'Soil and water _ re
sources to our youlth, a 4jH
Soil Conservation Club was
organized in the northeast
part of the county; this
group of boys studied the
principles of conservation and
held their completion round
up during the spring.
The importance of proper
conservation practices was in
cluded in a number of news
articles and radio broadcasts
produced by Lancaster Coun
ty Extension personnel dur
ing the year.
