COUNTDOWN
MACARONI BAKE
8 ounces elbow macaroni
3 large green peppers
3 large tomatoes
1% cups shredded process
American cheese (6 ounc
es)
Vz cup dairy sour cream
2 tablespoons minced chives
1 teaspoon salt
J 's teaspoon pepper
Cook macaroni in boiling,
salted water until tender, yet
firm, 5 to 7 minutes Drain
Meanwhile, cut tops off pep
peis and remove seeds and
membrane If necessaiy, cut
slice from bottoms to let pep
pers stand upright Cook pep
pers in boiling watei 5 min
utes Drain Cut tops off to
matoes and lemove pulp, re
serving IVz cups Blend cheese,
sour cream, chives, salt and
pepper Add to macaroni with
reserved tomato pulp, mixing
thoioughly Spoon into tomato
and pepper shells Place in
lightly greased i octangular 2-
quart casserole or baking dish,
about 7xll inches Bake in
moderate oven (350 degrees)
15 minutes, or until heated
through. 4 to 6 servings.
DUTCH SPICED TEA
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon orange pekoe tea
% teaspoon ground allspice
Pinch of dried mint leaves
6 tablespoons lemon juice
% cup orange juice
2 quarts cranbeiry juice,
heated
Boil water with sugar for 5
minutes. Add tea, allspice and
mint Let steep for 10 min
utes Strain Add to lemon and
orange juice Add mixture to
hot cranbeiry juice Reheat
slightly and seive hot 10 cups
SUMMER SALAD
2 avocados, halved and
pitted
2 tomatoes, halved
1-2 tablespoons lemon or
lime juice
y 4 cup finely chopped onion
1% to 2 teaspoons chib pow
der
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups laige cuid cottage
cheese, diained it neces
saiy
salad gieens
Scoop out avocados and to
matoes, turning tomatoes up
sidedown to diain Cut avo
cado meat into Va inch cubes
and sprinkle with lemon or
lime juice Dice tomato pulp
into 14-inch cubes and add to
avocado, chill Meanwhile, mix
onion, chili powdei and salt
into cottage cheese Shoitly be-|
fore serving, dram avocado t
and tomato, fold into cottage
cheese mixture Spoon into
tomato and avocado shells Ar-,
range on greens. Makes 8
servings.
NOTE To seive as a dip,
use avocados for shells and
serve with corn chips. Dice
1 whole tomato (instead of 2)
foi the cottage cheese mixture.

on Friday, August 14.
The girls were judged on
their appearance and person
ality and on the construction
of their garment. The judging
took place at the Farm Pro
duction Credit Building in
Lancaster.
The final meeting of the
Jolly Stitchers 4-H Club of
Farmersville was held on Au
gust 17 at the home of Mrs
Clydeth Buch of Leola.
At the meeting directions
were given for roundup, and
newsletters describing roundup
and the club picnic were giv
en to each member.
The junior leaders present
were Gail Smith, Sandra Sny
der, Kaye Smith, Joyce Horst,
June White and Jane Smith.

Fulton Grange #66 held
their regular meeting August
24 at their hall in Oakryn, Pa.
Master, Gyles H. Brown con
ducted the business meeting
in which the Grange decided
to sponsor 'a girl for the Miss
Solanco contest to be held
Nov. 28, and to provide the
third prize for the Ha’rvest
Queen contest at the Southern
Lancaster County Community
Fair to be held in Quarryville
Sept. 16. They also gave a
donation to the Arthritis and
Rheumatism Foundation. The
New York World’s Fair tour
committee announced they
must have reservations by
Sept 5. The Committee is
