Prices' Decline
On Slow Trade
Live broiler prices declined
sharply in the Delmarva area
during the 24 hour period end
ing 10 30 Friday morning. De
mand was only fair for the
moderate auction offerings. In
terest was stimulated only
slightly by extended pick up
dates.
Ready to cook demand con
tinued spotty ranging from
slow to fair with occasional in
terest for next week at very
competitive prices. Delivered
prices were down about a half
cent.
Estimated slaughter by east
ern shore processors for the
weekend was 831,000 head com
pared to the 693,000 head last
weekend.
Live prices at farms during
the period ranged 13.7 to 14.8
for reported purchases of 799,-
600 head including 374,100
head sold at Thursday’s auc
tion in Selbyville, Del. At the
auction 36 per cent of the
sales were at 14 to 14.4.
The Delmarva broiler-feed
ratio for the week ending May
29 was steady at 30. Broilers
during the week averaged 15.05
per pound and mash cost the
grower $lOO 00 per ton. For
the comparable week a year
ago, the ratio was 3.4 when
broilers averaged 16.65 and
mash sold for $99.43.
