- tANCASTER POULTRY CENTER Prices, Volume Increase Prices rose almost a half cent and volume more than tripled over the previous week it the September 5 broiler auction at the Lancaster Poul -11 v Center, A total of 153,300 broilers in 21 lots sold at prices rang ,ns from 15.8 to 16 3 for a &ale average of 15.94. Last week’s average was 15.53. B, oilers at the corresponding sale last year averaged 18.30. The top selling lot was 2 100 White Mountains at 10 weeks consigned by D. E Horn Company and John Mun ro, and purchased by W. C. Mellmger and Son. Only two lots on offer were unsold; these included 1,800 Indian Rivers at eight weeks two days, consigned by Miller and Bushong, and John O. Stoltz fus. They were withdrawn from the sale on bids of 15.9 and 16.0. The auction also offered and sold a lot of 1,650 leghorn fowl for 9.5, and a lot of 1,000 loasters for 19. Demand contin ued good for the light auc tion offerings. Prices ranged 15.1 to 1G.3 at farms for reported purcha ses of 972,200 head including 495,000 head sold at Thurs day’s Selbyville, Del., auction. Most of the sales were be tween 15.5 and 15.9. Estimated slaughter by Eas tern Shore processors for the week end was 925,000 head compared to the 778,400 head last week end. The Delmarva 'broiler-feed ratio for the week ending Au gust 30 was down two points from the previous week at 3.0. Broilers averaged 15.27 and mash cost the grower $lO2. 46 per ton.
