Water System Pasteurizer Is Developed Using a conventional water heater, research engineers at the Pennsylvania State Univer sity are developing and testing an improved home pasteurizer for disinfection of individual farm or home water supplies. The work was reported recent ly during the annual meeting of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers at Mia mi Beach, Fla. Mark D. Shaw, of the de paitment of agricultural en gineering at Penn State, said the prevalence of contaminated water and the need for disin fection of individual water supplies has become a growing problem in recent years. Shaw reported Agricultural Experiment Station engineers at Penn State have developed a control system to hold water a minimum of 30 minutes at a temperature above 145 de grees Fahrenheit. A heat ex changer preheats incoming water and cools the outflow when hot water is not needed, Shaw added. He said an optional feature of the system is a high capa city supplementary heater for high-temperature, short-time pasteurizing 161 degrees Fah-enheit for 15 seconds • Mountville Feed Service _ County Co-op Adds Personnel A.
