Miller, Clerics ers in the Commonwealth’s fl ocks during the month, at 15.1 million, was the lowest Febru ary average since 1941. This, combined with the extremely hard weather and resultant low rate or lay, accounted for the low total egg output. The aver age rate of lay, at 16.13 eggs per layer, was down seasonally from January, and was the lo west February rate since 1961. The short month and cold wea ther normally make the Feb ruary rate of lay the lowest of the year. Pennsylvania poultrymen cul led 2.4 percent of their layers during February, a large drop from the 5.7 percent during January, and the lowest num ber on record The number of pullets added to the laying flocks, as a percent of all lay ers, dropped from 4.4 percent during Jan. to 2.6% during February. This was the smal lest number of pullets added since April, 1958. Losses re sulting from disease, accident, exposure, etc , were down sli ghtly from a month earlier, but remained higher than a year ago. New Holland Sales Stables Horse Sale Every Monday at II A.M. This drop was caused by the 1 cent decline in the prices re ceived for eggs, and an increase in prices paid for feed. During February, Pennsylvania poult ryrnen lost the advantage they have had over the Nation as a whole, as the egg-feed ratio was the same for both, for the first time m over 20 years.' Normally, poultrymen in the Keystone State can buy about 1 pound more feed for a dozen eggs than the United States 4,813 million eggs during Feb average. The Nation’s farm flocks laid ruary, compared with 4,957 million eggs during February 1962.
