Drought Brings Comments
From All Around County
As Mark Twain said, every
ohe this week was talking
about the weather
At the Lancaster County
Soil Consenation Field Day
Wednesday, Earl Linton, an
associate director in the dis
trict from Kirkwood R 1 said,
“We ha\e been complaining
about the dry weather at
home, but if I had corn like
that (he pointed to the field
before him on the Lititz R 2
farm) I would certainly be
sick, but I guess that wouldn’t
help things any ”
Taking time out from duties
at the Southeastern Pennsyl
vania Artmcial Breeding Co
operative dairy show Henry
Kettering, Lititz R 2 said,
“People sav you will bum
crops up with too much fei
tilizer id a dry year, but that
is not so We had one rented
field that didn’t get as much
fertilizer as some of the rest
and that is our worst crop

Where we fertilized heaviest,,
the corn is in pretty good
shape not a good cfop, but
better than some places ”
A farmer from the Mount
Joy area (who wishes to re
main anonomous) said at the
SPABC dairy show, “We know
the ram falls on the just
and the unjust alike, but not
always at the same time. May
be we just hav e to wait our
turn ”
And so it goes across the
count> as the drought grips the
northern section ever tighter.
Feeling among farmers this
w eek indicate that many of
them have decided to put
large portions of their corn
ctop m silos Many of the
fields have passed the critical
stage, and farmeis believe
much of the crop will not
