The downward plunge in

Day holiday, Delmarva mar
ket reports were not avail
able for Friday.
Delmarva reported prices
of 11.70 to 13.40 during the
24 hour period ending 10.30
Thursday morning on 728,-
400 head at farms
Live prices averaged ap
proximately Vz cent higher
for a fair to good demand
for moderate supplies. Esti
mated slaughter for the day
was 746,000 head compared
with the 678,000 head for
the same day last week.
The Delmarva broiler-feed
ratio for the week ending
November 4 was down three
points from the previous
week at 2 7. Broilers averag
ed 12.38 per pound and 20
per cent broi er mash cost
the grower $90.82 per ton.
The ratio for the corres
ponding week a year ago was
3 8 when broilers sold for
16 50 per pound and mash
cost $87.12 per ton Six
months ago the ratio had
dropped to 3 1 as the price of
broilers slumped to 15.21
per pound.
POPCORN SEASON
Although most vendors
look for popcorn that pro
duces big kernels, the home
popper is better off with
smal’er, but extra tender va
rieties, believes Mrs Laßue
Hefner, extension foods spe
cialist at Penn State. Pop
the corn either dry in a wire
popper or in oil in a heavy
skillet. The kernels will ex
pand more than 30 times in
S’ze. One ounce of raw corn
makes a full quart of popped
corn
