The chairman explained
that the program seeks to
prevent a further buildup
of unneeded feed giam
stocks, by offering pay
ments to participating farm
ers for diverting a portion
of their farm s barley base
acreage from production in
to conservation A list of
approved conservation uses
will be available in the Co
unty Agricultural Stabiliza
tion and Conservation Serv
ice office and will be an
nounced publicly in the near
future
A farm’s barley base will,
in general, be the average
acreage planted to barley on
the farm in 1959 and 1960
To participate in the pro-
gram, a giowcr must divert
at least 20 per cent of the
base as well as comply to
other provisions of the pro
gram For this minimum di
version the payment wul
bo 50 per cent of the farm s
normal yield, at the county
suppoit price
For an additional 20-per
cent diversion up to 40
pe l- cent of the base, the
payment will be the county
support price on 60 per cent
of the normal yield
As under the 1051 feed
Siam piogram, advance pay
ments will be made at the
time growers sign up to take
part in the program
Eligibility for price sup
port on the farm’s “normal"
yield of the 1962 barley ac
reage will depend on parti
cipation in the 1962 barley
feed gram program and oa
meeting at least the mini
mum requnements of the
program These requirement
include diverting at least 2fi
per cent of the farm barley
base into conservation and
not exceeding the farm s
base acreage for corn and
grain sorghum
