Saturday, September 23, 1961 6 Farm Animal Disease Conference Slated At New Bolton Center Current research in the health and medical problems of animals will be demon strated Tuesday, September 26, at the 1961 Demonstrat ion Conference on Diseases of Farm Animals in Penn sylvania, sponsored by the University of ' Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medi cine. The Conference will be held at New Bolton Center, the School’s rural clinical and research facility in Chester County, near Ken nett Square, Pa. This is the third such Demonstration Conference which the School of Veteri nary Medicine has sponsored Some 300 guests are expect ed to attend, including rep resentatives of Pennsylvania animal industry groups, members of the State Sen ate and House of Represen tatives, agricultural officials practicing veterinarians, and others interested in animal health The research demonstrat ions will feature four scien tific presentations. Diabetic hu mans also are subject to ke tosis. 3. “Reproductive Wastage, Basic Research” with a dis cussion of work underway designed to explain why a certain proportion of a fe male animal’s fertilized eggs die. 4. “Dwarfism in Cattle.” Two cattle suffering from the disease known as dwarf ism will be displayed by Dr. J. Ellis Croshaw, as he de scribes current studies in this problem. It is hoped, Dr. Croshaw says, that a test can be developed which will identify cows and bulls carrj-ing the recessive genes which produce dwarf offs pring.
