Spence Today our “Favorite Recipes” come from a group known as the Birthday Club from Rheems. They started out as the program committee for the PTA meetings some 20 years ago and enjoyed the fellowship so much they de cided to get together on each of their birthdays. In August they have a picnic at the Weidler Cottage along the Cone stoga Creek and in December they have a Christmas party at which time they reveal their “Pollyannas”. Mrs. Spence RHUBARB SAUCE Mrs Martha Rohrer, 75 Main St., Landivilie, 4 cups rhubarb 2 cups strawberries 1 cup c’i rushed pineapple 2 cups sugar 1 cup water 2 tablespoons tapioca Put rhubarb, strawberries, sugar and water together, bring to a boil. Put in unbaked crust and put strips of dough on top Bake in a boderate oven. Ref? ton. 6 medium-sized baking ap ples 2 cups flour 2 1 /a teaspoons baking pow der Vi teaspoon salt % cup shortening Va cup milk - Roll dough as for pastry and cut into 6 squares and place an apple on each. Fill cavity in apple with sugar and cinnamon Pat dough a> round to cover it Plcae the dumplings 1 inch apart in a greased baking pan. Cover with the following sauce: 2 cups brown sugar 2 cups water Vi cup butter Vt teaspoon cinnamon or * nutmeg Combine brown sugar, wa ter and spices. Cook for five minutes Pour over apples in baking dish. Bake at 375 de grees for 35 to 40 minutes.
