State Launches Battle Against Khapra Beetle HARRISBURG—-The Penn splvania Department of Ag riculture announced Friday it has completed treatment of freight cars, trucks and bags used m transporting 20 million pounds of myra bolam nuts suspected of be ing infected by the Khapra beetle Myrabolam nuts are a source of tannic acid used m tanneries The shipment ori ginated m India, was un loaded in New York and sent to two taneries in Pot ter and Tioga Counties Prc- J sence of the Khapra beetle was discovered in the hold of the ship when unloading was completed in Norfolk two days after leaving 'New York Khapra beetles are pri marily pests of stored pro ducts, chiefly gram or grain products It is not known to be in Pennsylvania.
