State average to be 407 pounds of butterfat and 10,365 pounds of milk per cow. This is the first time m the history of the Pennsyl vania DHI A. program that the State average exceeded 400 pounds of buterfat. The 1958 record (a previous all time high) was surpassed by an increase of 9 pounds of fat and 317 pounds of milk per cow. In addition, the average number of cows on test increased 8 peicent in 1959 over 1958. Lancaster County was “tops” with 25 herds that averaged over 500 pounds of butterfat. In summary, the dairy farmers in Pennsylvania are constantly using records to improve the production of their dairy cattle, thereby achieving the ultimate goal of Better Cattle For Better Living. LIME VALLEY MILLS College Plans Farm Youth Lag Behind Urbanites A third of this year’s high -school seniors who live on farms have definite plans to attend college in 1960, com pared with about half of the high school seniors who live in cities. This is one of the findings of a special inquiry conduct ed last fall by the Bureau of the Census of the Depart ment of Commerce in cooner ation with the Agricultural Marketing Service of the Department of Agriculture The advance report, “Ed ucational Status and School Plans of Farm and Non farm Youth: October 1959” released today, is based on a jstudy conducted in Oct ober 1959. The object was to obtain information on the educational status and plans of U. S. farm and nonfarm youth.
