the support levels. This has
resulted in a substantial les
sening in the use of price sup
ports thus lor during the
current season.
“With an expanding econ
omy, growing employment
and higher consumer incomes,
as well as other factors, mar
kets rather than government;
price suppoits are setting
the prices winch farmers are
receiving on several crops, at
levels above the supports,”

Mr Morse also pointed out
that, “This is the period of
seasonally large marketings
of many farm products, fol
lowing harvest, and conse
quently the season when pri
ces usually aie at the lowest
levels of the year ”
Of the more than 250 agri
cultural products, only 21 re
ceive price supports Existing
farm leg'sllahon requires the
Department to give price sup
port to 16 of these'commodi
ties, and support for the five
other products is authorized
by law.

report on Agricultural Prices,
which reflected prices receiv
ed by farmers as of mid-Nov.
