CARPET STAIN REMOVAL SUGGESTIONS During this holiday season, when we do a lot of extra entertaining, it seems that the livingroom or diningroom carpet is the hardest hit vc tim. We have here some sug gestions which will help in keeping your carpet looking its best, despite spills and accidents. Spots and stains on your carpets need immed ate at tention. Most common spots can be removed if the proper remover is applied while the stain is fresh. Collect stain removal materials in a box and have them ready for use in spot and stain “emergen cies ” Include these items in your stain removal kit: Absorbent cheesecloth, blotting paper, medicine dropper, a case knife or spa tula carbon tetrachloride, cornstarch or French chalk, corn meal, turpentine, denat ured alcohol, white vinegar, oxalic acid and hou c ehold ammonia (both d'luted to naif strength), and neutral (non-alkalme) detergent (the type used for washing de'L cate fabrics The procedure: MUD - sponge with cold water; if the stain remains, sponge with denatured alcoo hol (do not use on rayon) ROAD OIL AND TAR spread cornstarch or French chalk on the fresh spots and let stand for an hour or two Remove the powder and sponge the spots with turpen tine Repeat if necessary GREASE OR GREASY FOOD scrape off excess food with knife or spatula Sponge remaining spots with carbon tetrachloride.
