Sale Cancelled Again
' Lack of sufficient listings
forced cancellation of the
sole at the Lancaster- Poul
try. Center for the second
week in a row.
Only three lots of 1t,300
-broilers were listed by dead
line date, and buyers were
informed that there would
be no auction on Thursday.
Officers of the poultry exch
ange in making the listings
public advised buyers to con
tact grcs\vers privately if
they are interested in pur
chasing birds.
Several suggested reasons
for the scattered listings we
re given by officials at the
Poultry Center this week
Growers remembering the
poor prices and reluctant
bidding at the Christmas wk
sale last year were cautious
about placing chicks to have
them ready for the market
at this time. Several of the
larger independent growers
and some of the contracting
companies spaced their chi
ck placements so as to have
the larger runs between Th
anksgiving and Christmas,
and again after the first of
the year.
It seemed to be the feel
ing at the Poultry Center
that the ban on Capettes
has probably had some ef
fect on the market. Some
growers apparently are fe
eding broilers a week or so
longer than normal while
keeping an eye on the move
ment of pou’try prices. This
reluctance to put birds on
the market at normal wei
ghts might result in a build
