TYPICAL— Here’s what you find at the main panel in many homes. If you have an obsolete
“main," similar to the one at the left, you have enough "housepower” only for lights and a few
small plug-in appliances. A minimum installation (center) will permit the addition of a couple
major, 240-volt appliances, such as an electric range and a water heater—but that’s all. A
“main" like the one'at the right will take care of almost any usual combination of electrical
appliances, with the exception of central air conditioning and electric bouse heating.
