school in Ft Collins, Colorado.
We traveled via turnpike to Chicago Then west
lowa where acres of corn are grown along with bet
and hogs and the soil is much darker in appea lan „.
Approaching Nebraska, we
drove through a small torna
do which halted us for a
short time until the wind
and rain subsided.
Upon entering Nebraska at
Omaha, we drove by the
well-known father Flanagan
Boys Town school.
Further on in Nebraska,
we were surprised to see a
4-H sign reading “Lancaster
County 4-H Welcomes You ”
As we left Nebraska stud
entered Kansas, we observed
a few wheat fields being har
vested, however, early for
full harvest.
v Wherever you see grain
elevators here, you will find
towns about them; along
with trees, otherwise, the
rural area is level with very
few trees.
On the Plains approaching
Colorado, the need for irri
gation was much more evi
dent due to the arid condi
tions and the lack of rain-
