M&B Plans Expansion
Miller & Bushong, Inc., of
Bohrerstown, manufacturers
of Early Bird feeds announc
ed to Lancaster Farming,
early this week, plans for
construction of additional
feed milling and mixing fa
cilities at their Bohrerstown
headquarters.
Chester Graybill, president
of the firm, reported that the
new facilities will be housed
in a compact, 97-feet high
"push button mill”, which
will be the area’s most mod
ern milling plant.
The operation will include
large gravity flow bins for
whole grains, concentrates
and other ingredients, with
outlets from the milling and
pelleting equipment to the
bulk loading area and pack
aging plant in present facili
ties.
Miller & Bushong was
founded by Harry C. Miller
at what is now known as the
Binkley Mill, m 1875, on the
Old Harrisburg Pike.
W. Scott Bushong joined
the firm in 1898. In 1919,
Graybill joined Bushong, fol
lowing Miller’s retirement.
The firm’s mill was des
troyed by fire in 1941, after
which the present mill was
constructed.
U.S. Calf Crop

The 1959 U S calf crop is
expected to total 41,328 000
head, two per cent greater
than 1958, and seven per
cent above the 10-year aver
age according to the USDA.
This is the first increase
from the previous year, sin
ce the record crop of 42,601,-
000 head in 1954. The calf
crop in the 11 Western Stat
es is estimated at three per
cen+ higher than a year ago.
The North Central states
expect a one per cent increa
se and South Central, four
per cent North Atlantic sta
tes expect a slight drop
