Campaign Starts for IFYE Funds
The Lancaster County In
ternational Farm Youth Ex
change Committee, headed
by Wayne B. Rentschler, of
Lampeter, is launching a
drive for Lancaster County’s
share of funds to send the
local youth delegate to Peru
next autumn.
James Hess, 22-year.old
son of. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin
Hess, Strasburg RDI, has
been selected ..by the na
tional IFYE committee „to
represent the county and the
United States in the unique
“work-andvisit” internation
al program.
Although the program has
government “blessing” in
the United States, it is sup
ported by private contribu
tions to help pay each dele
gate’s expenses.

tion,” Rentschler points out,
“emphasizes the people-to
people good will factor- of
the ordinry working folk
digging down to help build
friendship between coun
tries"
“Our delegates earn a
good share of their expenses
by working on farms in otlu
er countries, plus contribu
ting many hours in prepara
tion for the trip and the time
involved in the trip. ’ he
added.
“Our local committee hopes
to raise at least $7OO for our
share, which will —not pay
near all of the cost. The rest
will come from contributions

Hess is the youngest son of
an “old-time” county farm
family. He compiled an out
standing record in 4-H Club
work and achieved the FF
A’s American Farmer de
gree. He has been a mem
ber of two state 4-H judging
teams.
