    TERRAMYCIN-HORMONE
INCREASES GAINS
Tests at the Kentucky Agncul
tural Experiment Station indicate
daily gains of steers can be in
creased 0.48 pound by using a
combination of a synthetic hor
mone and an antibiotic. Dr. W. P.
Garngus, head of the animal hus
bandry section and A. R. Parsons,
beef specialist at the Kentucky
station, say implants of 12- and
24-milligram pellets of diethyl
stilbestrol in the ear of yearling
Angus steers resulted in an aver
age daily gain of 0.26 pound high
er than non-implanted steers. Ad
dition of 80 milligrams of terra
mycm to the salt each steer was
eating daily produced an addi
tional daily gain of 0.22 pounds.
