certified as free from diseases by
the state of origin, the State De
partment of Agi iculture said Mon
day
Secretary of Agriculture Wil
liam L Henning said the action
was taken at the request of the
Assn in an effort to protect Penn
sjlvanians from migratory, bee
keepers in violation of sanitary
and health practices.
The legulation is made under
riovisions of the Apiary Inspe
tion Act of 1921 This act governs
the keeping and movement of
bees and used beekeeping equip
ment and piovides for periodical
inspection of bees and hives
Henning said bees or used bee
equipment entering Pennsylvania

ied by a certificate indicating free
dom from disease Notice must be
givjn to the Bureau of Plant In
dustry, Department of Agncul
luie, Harrisburg, within 10 days
of the movement of bees or used
equipment
Acordmg to regulations, hives
oi other used equipment must be
plainly marked with the name
and address of the owner and the
exact location where placed
Packaged bees bearing a certi
ficate of inspection from the state
of origin are exempt from the
new regulations
The Bureau of Plant Industry
each year inspects bee colonies
for diseases 1957 field agents in
spected 55,000 colonies, appioKi
nvtcly 12,000 more than during
the previous inspection period

Exposition to Be
One Day Longer;
Pen Lots Added
The official date for the sec
oud annual Pennsylvania National
Livestock Exposition has been
set for next Nov 10-15 inclusive,
according to announcement today
by the executive committee head

This is one more day than the
fust exposition held last Nov 12-
16 Moving the opening day from
Tuesday to Monday will make the
coming show a 6-day event.
However, exposition livestock
entries will be released at 8 p m.
on Friday, Nov 15 L. H Bull,
Deputy Secretary of Agriculture
and exposition secretary, said
livestock to be used in the annual
intercollegiate events at the East
ern Livestock Show, Timomum,
Md, will be released earlier ’f

For the 1958 Pennsylvania Na
tional Livestock Exposition the
committee today authorized
premium awards for pen lots of
steers, swine and sheep Thrs in

feeders of livestock in showing
their market type animals
Provisions will be made for 15
pens of five fat cattle each, 15
pens of ten fat lambs and 15 pens
ot ten market type hogs
Inspections are made to deter

ed unanimous approval of a reso

Benson for his firm stand on
agricultural policy in the face of
determined opposition from both
Democrats and members of his
own party
This telegram reporting the
commendation was sent to Secre
tary Benson “The Directors of
the Pennsylvania Poultry Federa
tion, - representing the organized

Pennsylvania, today in their re
gular meeting, by unanimous vote
