NEW YORK, March 5 Shell egg market noted a decided
firmness with a close clearance of available supplies except some
undergrades. Receipts advancing and being pieced out among regular
customers with few available on the open market. No general willing
ness, today, however, to pay higher prices and quotations were un
changed on all grades, sizes and shell colors.

Reserve Sign-up
Ends April 15
The final date for farmers to
enroll m the conservation reserve
program of the soil bank is April
15, according to Miss Dorothy
Keel, office manager of the local
Agricultural Conservation and
Stabilization committee
Payment rate for conservation
reserve is $l2 an acre each year
for the land diverted from pro
duction of cultivated crops Other
ehgible land is $3 60 an acre, or
$6 an acre if all eligible land on
the farm is placed in the reserve
Contracts may be signed for
three, five or 10 years, depending
on the cover on the land at the
time the contract is signed.
If the land is not in permanent
grass, it must be seeded and the
farmer will be paid approximately
80 per cent of the cost of estab
lishing permanent cover grass
or trees.
2,093 Acres Put
In Corn Reserve
A total of 2,093 acres in Lancas
ter County have been placed in
the corn acreage reserve program
for 1958, according to information
released this week by the county
Agricultural Conservation and
Stabilization committee.
Two hundred farmer will share
in payments to total $129,323 91.
While all funds allocated the
county have been used, 43 farm
ers have registered 403 more
acres to be placed m reserve in
case additional funds become
available A total of $23,726
would be needed to accommodate
these acres
