Registrations Hit 10 Million KANSAS CITY, Mo. Pure bred Hereford registrations soared near the ten million mark at the close of the American - Here ford Association’s fiscal year, Aug. 31. Registrations for the last 12 months totaled 430,951, more than 200,000 greater than the combined registrations of other major beef breeds for the last year reported. The registration total for the year is the fifth highest on record in the 76-year history of the Amer ican Hereford Assn, according to the announcement by Secretary Paul Swaffar. The final registration number, issued for the year was 9,916,749? with the ten million mark expect ed to be reached by the middle of October. The increase in the asso ciation’s active records, including all breeders of registered Here fords, and a sizeable increase in memberships of the association made it possible for the Hereford industry to tighten further its position as the leadmg purebred registry association in the world. During the year a total of 1,692 memberships were issued to bring the total association memberships issued as series D since 1947 to an all-time record of 32,681. Transfers for the year, represent ing sales at auctions and by pri vate treaty, totaled 235,510. Illustrating the growth of the association it took nearly 41 years to register the first million head of Herefords in the records of the association. It has taken slightly over two years to record the last million. It took 12 years for the total registrations to reach the two mil lion mark. Seven years later the records showed a total of three million head. It was narrowed to a five year period to reach four million and three years later the * five million mark was passed. It only 25 months to send recordings took two and one-half years to istrations passed eight million in pass the six million figure and past the seven million mark.
