Accidental Poisoning Caused by Rotenone Rotenane, an insecticide con sidered safe for use under field conditions, was responsible for the deaths of a number of pigs in a herd, according to a report in the Journal of the American Vet erinary Medical Association. Poisoning signs appeared'sud denly in the herd. Affected ani mals exhibited a type of ascending paralysis which began in the hind legs. Investigation by veterinary au thorities established that a Con tainer of rotenone had been spil led and swept into a feed bin. The poisoning occurred when the Contents of the bin was fed to the jngs. John and Pauline Blankenship, Route 6, Murfees boro, Tenn, made history in the 1956 contest as the first husband vife team ever entered in the National Plowing Matches. Contestants from some 15 states are expected in this year’s National Matches, being held in ■onjunction with the 1957 World’s Conservation Exposition and Fifth \ orld’s Plowing Contests.
