Broilers Drop 2.5 Cents to 20.32
At Lancaster Exchange Thursday
LANCASTER The approach
ing Labor Day weekend was prob
ably responsible for a 250 cent
drop in the average price for
broilers at the Aug. 29 auction
at the Lancaster Poultry Ex
change.
The 69,650 birds sold went from
19% to 22V4 cgnts with the aver
age being 20.32 cents.
Two lots, 1,550 cockerels cap
ettes, sold for 30Vi and 31%
cents; a lot of 1,000 capettes sold
for 29 cents; and 1,500 pullet
capettes moved for 39 cents.
At the same sale a year ago,
51,500 broilers average 19.37
cents.

adequate for the fair but very se
lective demand. Buyer preference
appeared to favor yearling hens,
pullets and large caponettes with
but little interest in other classes.
Fryers were liberally offered in a
lower price range with slow sales.
