Sloat urges growers to attend, bring their pickers and sharp color vision. He says that the recent hot dry weather has caused blossom drop and poor set in the tomato crop. The uneven moisture conditions have also caused blossom end rot. “The last four to six days before picking are critical in the tomato” Sloat says. “The starch turns to sugar, the color turns red, flavor improves and the weight increases rapidly.” Farm Calendar 4-H Dairy Show all day, Arti ficial Breeders Cooperative, Route 230 By-Pass, Lancaster Black & White Show all day, Artificial Breedefs Coopeiative, Route 230 By-Pass, Lancaster.
