Herr Peach Bottom , Inc., of Ohio asked for an injunc tion against the State Department of Agriculture to restrain the De partment from preventing it from selhng these milk products. Paul Richards, head of the milk, sanitation bureau in the Depart ment, said McAllister was selling ice cream and sherbert in retail outlets in the western part of the State without a milk products per mit or license. A permit is neces sary, Richards said, under the milk sanitation law of 1935, Secretary Henning lauded the decision of Judge Walter R. The Southern Lancaster County Community Fair will be held Sept. 18 to 20 at the Quarryville Fire Hall Selection of a Harvest Queen and a parade will open the fair. Winners of the Rural Youth Con test will be awarded prizes the evemng of Sept. 20. Charles. Phipps is general manager. The Lititz Community Show will be held Sept. 18 to 21 at the VFW lot of North Spruce Street in Lititz. Exhibits of farm pro duce will be shown in the Lititz Recreation Center. The show is sponsored each year by the Lititz Community Farm Fair, sponsored Carl Foltz as superintendent. The Elizabethtown Kiwanis Community Farm Far, sponsored by the Elizabethtown Kiwanians, will also be held Sept. 18 to 21 on the Elizabethtown Fair Grounds. Marching school bands perform for prizes in the first day’s parade. On “Kids Day” children will be treated to half prices on the midway. Over 80 farm and handicraft exhibits will be shown. Chairmen are Homer Myers, Henry Brackbill and Les ter Hitz. A gymkana, or games on' horse back, will feature the 33rd an nual West Lampeter Community Fair, Sept. 25 to 27 on the Com munity Center grounds Lam peter. Wayne Rentschler is secretary treasurer of the community groups organizing the fair Miss Lancaster County, the girl who will represent Lancaster County in the Miss Pennsylvania beauty pagent at West Chester will be chosen Sept. 26 during the Ephrata Fair The fair will be held Sept 25 to 28 under the di rection of the Ephrata Farmers' Day Assn , Inc The contest itself will be held in the Ephrata High School auditorium under the aus pices of Ephrata Llody Gerhart is in charge of the fair and Walter E Lewis is managing the contest The New Holland Farmers Fair 1 will be held Oct 2 to 5 Events will include a Baby Parade Be sides farm produce exhibits in the high school, swine and steers will be shown and auctioned off at the New Holland Sales Barn by the 4-H Baby Beef and Swine Club, according to Chairman Roy Witmer Prized fighting cocks will be exhibited at the Manheim Com- Walnul Dalana, Seasonal Pest, Appears Here HARRISBURG Walnut da tana, a seasonal insect pest, has made its appearance across most of Pennsylvania and is expected to be at its destructive best dur ing he next few weeks, the State Department of Agriculture re ports A native insect, the walnut da tana defoliates black walnut trees and is capable of economic destruction to shade trees or tim ber, Dr Thomas L Guyton, dir ector of the Bureau of Plant In dustry, said The insect is in its larva stage and has been found in some areas descending black walnuts to molt or shed its natural skin to help increase its growth. It is found in large clusters on the bark of walnut trees. Dr Guyton said walnuit datana can be controlled by spraying trees wih three pounds of lead arsenate to 100 gallons of water or two pounds of 50 per cent wettable DDT to 100 gallons of water. If found in single clusters larvae should be crushed, Dr. Guyton said. Walnut trees defoliated by this< pest have been known to have died after defoliation of four consecutive years. Dr. Guyton said the datana also reduces the normal growth, of walnut trees. The insect of only one genera tion a year will fade away in mid-August upon completion of its usual seasonal feeding period. munity Farm Show Oct. 3 to 5.
