Cool August Weather
Aids Egg Production
HARRISBURG Cool weath
er during August helped Penn
sylvania farm chickens to lay
more eggs and they tied the all
time egg production record fdr
the month, the State Depart
ment of Agriculture reported
today.
The number of layers at 17,-
170,000 was almost four per
cent below August of last year
when the record was set, but
the high production rate
the decline in layers and egg
output at 24 million equalled the
August 1955 high, Federal-State
surveys showed.
Pennsylvania egg production
last month was up one per cent
from July. Layers in flocks have
been increasing since June and
now include a substantial num
ber of pullets, the Department
said.
State production of eggs for
the first eight months of this
year totals 2,405,000,000 or on®
per cent less than the 2,437,000,-
000 for the same period last
year.
