Farm Fair came to its conclusion
Saturday.
Melvin Miller, 15, a sophomore
at Hershey High School showed
his Aberdeen Angus to grand
championship of the Baby Beef
show, judged by Roger Halstead
of the Pennsylvania State Um

tained his steer through the

Hershey, exhibited the grand
champion swine a Chester
White gilt at the Elizabeth
town Kiwanis Community
Farm Fair last week. The 11th
grade student is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Risser.
County sale, with the animal
originating at the noted Mil
larden Angus Farms in Ann-,
ville, Pa. This was Melvin’s
first Angus. Showing five
years, this was Melvin’s first
grand'Champion. His steer last
year placed fourth in class
amofig Herefords at the 1956
Pennsylvania Farm Show.
Feeding Calf Manna from
Aberdeen Mills, Melvin first
topped the Angus at Eliza
bethtown. then moved on to
championship over all breeds.
Reserve awards went to Rob
ert Gibble, R 3 Elizabethtown,
also on an Angus.
Leading the Hereford show
,m fitting showing and top of
the breed was 16-year-old
Christ C. Miller, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Christ Miller of R 1
Elizabethtown. Christ secured
bis steer last November through
the county sale at New Holland.
The steer originally came from
the Leo Eagen herd in Asby,
Neb., out m the Sand Hills. This
was Christ’s fourth steer to be-

For his ration, Christ select
ed 32 per cent protein in
Purina calf Chow, to 50 lbs
corn, 20 barley, and 25 oats.
He supplied the grand cham
pion of the 1954 show.
Headlining the swine show
was Floyd Risser, Jr., R 2 Her
shey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Risser, who scoied grand cham
pionship with a Chester White
gilt. The eleventh grade student
obtained his gilt in the spring,
and fed Wolgemuth Bros feeds.
Previously Floyd had shown at
Mount Joy, where in six --years
he produced two grand cham
pions, and he also placed reserve
at Elizabethtown this year. John
Risser a brother, was tops in
Spotted Poland Chinas, and
Robert Baker, R 2 Elizabeth-
town, won as champion show-
man.
