Twenty-two truck drivers em
ployed by Herr’s Motor Express,
Quarryville, Friday night re
ceived citations for being mem
bers of the Driver’s Honor Roll
ioi the period ending July 31,
1956.
Awards were made at a
dinner meeting in the parl
ors of, Memorial Methodist
Church, where the program
featured talks by Lt. William
R. Engle, , from Troop B
Headquarters, Pennsylvania
State Police at Lancaster,
and Dr. Andrew S. Besfaore,
state safety coordinator,
Bureau of Highway Safety,
Harrisburg.
Presenting citations was T M.
Barnes, an official of Carolina
Casualty Insurance Company,
Builington, N. C.
Receiving five-year Safe Driver
Awards were: James Bleacher,
William Crawford, and Norman
Todd; four-year awards: Paul
Chapman and David McAllister;
three-year awards, Charles
Howett, Earl Knickerbocker,
William Kowal, Charles Latch
ford, Carl McVey, Richard
Rohrer, and J. Earl Roland;
two-year awards, Horace Heald,
John L. Luttrell, Jr, Melvin
Rmeer, and Robert Shissler;
one-year awards; Harry E. D.
Bleacher, Kenneth H. Brown,
John F. Clanton, Jr., George
Cox, Paul Trout and Robert
Weiss.
Lt. Engle stressed driving
safety, adding that ‘Tv»
always considered the truck
driver my friend. They have
never failed to offer’ assist
ance when I needed it.”
Yet today there are two
Paramount problems, 1, ju
venile delinquency, and 2,
the traffic accident problem
that brings death, suffering,
waste.

little common sense in driv
ing, Dr. Beshore advised, and
realized “eight times more
people four to 18 years of
age are killed in motor vehicle
accidents than die by polio.”
Lt. Engle cited tlftt 72 per
cent of the accidents are caused
by speeding, failure to yield the
right of way, reckless driving.
“The reason for auto accidents
is not in lack of knowledge of
traffic laws; it must lie in the
makeup of the individual driver,
his shortcomings, drinking,
physical limitations, mental at
titudes/’ he elaborated.

a delicious roast beef dinner.
