Pennlawn Fescue for Sun or Shade
Breeder’s seed of Pennlawn fescue, a new lawn grass
variety'released by the Pennsylvania State University Agri
cultural Experiment Station last year, originates here. The
tufts, set in a pattern to assure cross-pollination, are oi
three selections of ordinary red fescue. The parents ot
these clones were chosen for vigor, density and disease
resistance from more than 10,000 greenhouse grown
plants. As a result of the desirability of this variety, first
released in 1954, approximately 150,000 pounds of com
mercially grown seed of the new variety will go into lawn
mixtures next year.
