Potato Misbranding Brings Stiff Warning WASHINGTON (USDA) Disciplinary action will be taken under the Perishable Agricul tural Commodities Act in all cases where farm produce in interstate commerce is mis branded or misrepresented, the U. S. Department of Agricul ture announced today. Officials - cited in particular the practice of branding Russet Burbank potatoes as ‘Tdaho Potatoes”, without regard to the State in which the potatoes were produced. This is consid ered a violation of the PAC Act. Anpropnate measures will be taken to force its discontinuance and to take disciplinary action against violators, the Depart ment said. The Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act is a Federal statute administered hy the Fruit and Vegetable Division of USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service. It requires the licens ing of fruit and vegetable deal ers, and assists in the settle ment of complaints and dis putes of shippers and receivers. The Act, in effect, enforces what is primarily a fair prac tice code set up by the indus try with the assistance of the Federal Government. It seeks, also, to prevent the misbrand ing or misrepresenting of pro duce to the detriment of the industry. gBBmiWm—IBHB Join farm LANCASTER FARMING by mail EVERY WEEK.
