Farm ShoWNeetfe
To Expand, Says '
Dr. Henning
HARRISBURG, Weather and
hazardous road conditions that
put attendance at the 1956 Penn
sylvania Farm Show served to
emphasize the need for additions
to physical facilities in the 14-
acre building. Dr. William L. Hen
ning, chairman of the Farm Show
Commission, declared as the show
closed.
Friday’s attendance was esti
mated at 60,000, making a total
of ,580,000 for ithe week com
pared with 675,000 last year and
540,000 two years ago when the
week opened with a heavy show.
300 Commercial Exhibitors
“In effect, reduced attendance
was a* blessing in disguise for
ponunercial exhibitors and visit
ors;-” Dr. Henning said. “Except
for The big Wednesday, the visit
ors saw the show in 'comfort. The
more than 300 commercial exhib
itors, the folks who support the
show, had a better opportunity
to talk with prospective cusom-
ers ”
This means that exhibitors
need more space for their dis
plays, Dr. Henning explained, ad
ding that more than 100 had" to
be turned away for lack of room
this year.
Replace Utilities
“The Farm Show Commission
is asking Ithe General State Autho
rity to allocate $2,871,000 for im
provements and additions at the
Farm Show-” he said. “This
would provide a 3-story building
for more exhibit space, a new
cafeteria and dormitories for
farhi youth exhibiting alt the
show, and for State Police as
signed to the show.
It also would replace worn-out
heating, electric and water line
systems, replace a temporary
sheet steel building used for
horses and beef cattle, and ex
pand other livestock areas.”
