DAYTON HERD QUALIFIES
. For the fifth year, Russell! S-
Dayton, Montrose, Pa., has quali
fied for the Progressive Breed
ers’ Award, presented by The
Holstein-Fnesian Association of
America. This honor, the highest
recognition bestowed upon a
breeder of registered Holstein-
Friesian dairy cattle, has been
tachieved by only 286 Holstein
breeding establishments in the
entire nation, and Mr. Dayton is
one of 30 in Pennsylvania to be

In order to achieve the Pro
gressive Breeders’ Award a Hob
stein breeder must meet strict
qualifications in all phases of
dairy cattle reeding and manage
ment, including production, type
improvement, herd health and
(the development of home-bred
animals-
The last production test of the
Dayton Herd Improvement Regis
try program was completed De
cember 31, 1954, with the 27-cow
herd averaging 13,721 lbs of
milk and 509 lbs of butterfat in
310 days on 2 milkings daily.
-The herd has also been of
ficially classified for type and
scored 81.9.
The current award is based on
a herd of 42 animals of which 28
have freshened- All of these
were born and developed on the
Dayton farm.
A certificate of this award has
been sent to Mr- Dayton by The
Holstein-Friesian Association of
America, national organization of
the Holstein breed representing
more than 46,000 members
A bronze year plate will be
presented to him at a meeting of
Holstein breeders from his area,
ito be added to the bronze plaque
awarded when this sherd first
achieved the honor.
SEVENTH YEAR FOR MUSSER
For the seventh year, Leon M.
Musser, Lewisburg, Pa., has
qualified for the Progresive
Breeders’ Award, presented by
The Holstein-Friesian Association
of America- This honor, the high
est recognition bestowed upon a
breeder of registered Holstein-
Friesian dairy cattle, has been
achieved by only 286 Holstein
breeding establishments in the
entire nation, and Mr. Musser is

fat in 302 days on 2 milkings
daily.
The herd has also been of
ficially classified for type,and
scored 82 8.
The current award is based on
a herd of 29 animals of which
19 have freshened. Eighteen of
these 19 were born and .develop
ed on the Musseir farm-

UNIVERSITY QUALIFIES
For the eleventh year, Penn
sylvania State University, Uni
versity Park, has qualified for
the Progressive Breeders’ Award,
presented by The Holstein-Frie
sian Association of America. This
honor, the highest recognition
bestowed upon a breeder of
registered Holstein-Friesian dairy
cattle, has been achieved by only
1286 Holstein breeding establish
ments in the entire nation, and

lbs of milk and-613 lbs of butter
fat in 313 days on 3 milkings
daily for 12 cows and 2 milkings
daily for the remainder.
The herd has also bfeen of-,
ficially classified for type and
scored 83.2- -
The current award is based on
a herd of 84 animals of which
47 have freshened- All of these
were born and developed on the
University farm.
A certificate of this award
has been sent to the University.
A bronze year plate will be
presented.
BALLARDS OF TROY SCORE
For the second year, Leon
