ers marketing quota referendum
have been announced by the 16
Jlgricultural and Stabilization and
Conservation districts.
Polls will be open from 9 am.
to 5 p.m- next Thursday and votes
will be cast to approve or dis
approve quotas for Pennsylva
nia cigar filler tobacco for the
1956, 1957 and 1958 crops. Option
of voting for quotas for the next
year’s crop only will be elimi
nated from the ballot.
Revised estimates brought the
1955 crop figures to 43,350,000
lbs on an alloted acreage of
28,900. Next year’s figures are
37,800,000 lbs on an alloted
acreage of 24,577, a reduction of
about 15 per cent in acreage, 13
per cent in poundage.
A two-thirds majority vote is
necessary-

erendum, a farmer must have
produced Pennsylvania filler tob

Two-Thirds Vote Needed
Any farmer who shares in a
cigar filler toibacco crap this year,
either as an owner, operator,
share-cropper or tenant is entitled
to vote.
Other ballots will also be .avail
able for the single farmer in Lan
caster County who raised hurley
tobacco during the current year.
Quotas have been in effect on this
type since 1939. The referendum
on this type will be nationwide
and will'also be the next three
marketing years.

Farmers received slightly higher
prices than a month earlier tor
wheat, oats, barley, .hay and milk.
However, a decline of three
points in livestock prices more

average the index stands three
points below a year ago.
