Ag College Near
Top Enrollment
Even though the College of
Agriculture at the Pennsylvania
State University now has the larg
est enrollment in its 100-year his
tory with 1,277 men and women
listed, it is not yet in a position
to meet half of the demands for
trained personnel. This was point
ed out by Dr Russell B Dicker
son, director of resident instruc
tion, as he sui'’eyed the 500 dif
ferent jobs and professions with
in modern agriculture and allied
industries
In addition to the 1,277 under
graduates in the 4-year program
there are 239 graduate students,
compared to 219 a year ago, re
flecting the trends for more
specialized training In the vari
ous fields Dr Dickerson said the
addition of a new curriculum in
conservation brings to 19 the
number of curnculums within
the College of Agriculture, all
designed to meet demands for
trained personnel.
Because of the growing needs
for college-trained men and wom
en throughout the nation, plans
are under way within the College
of Agriculture to attract more
high school students into these
new jobs opportunities, many of
which did mot exist a few vears
ago, Dr. Dickerson said. These
plans are starting with an em
phasis on providing vocational
guidance leaders with facts on
the vast list of careers within ag
riculture, over and above actual
farming or ranching, he said
