Monster
$ BW
Prostitute, serial killer, monster. All words used to
describe Aileen Wuornos, a Florida woman whose life
is something short of an uplifting story. Born in
Michigan to an abusive family, Aileen was a prostitute
at the age of 13.
“Monster,” directed by first-timer Patty Jenkins and
starring Charlize Theron (as Aileen Wuornos) and
Christina Ricci (as Selby Wall), details Aileen's life
from her brush with suicide, to her relationship with
Selby Wall, to the downward spiral in which she
turned to murder and after killing six men was final-
ly apprehended, convicted, and sent to death row.
"Monster" is not your average movie. It's a shock-
ing and moving character study, and strangely
enough, a love story. The relationship between
Wuornos and Wall is bizarre; Wall is living with an
aunt in Florida in an effort to "cure" her of her les-
bianism when she meets Wuornos in a bar. Wuornos,
although not a lesbian, finds herself in a relationship
with Selby because after realizing that her dream of
being taken care of isn't going to come true, she has
found someone who she herself can take care of.
Though many feel that the movie is too sympathetic
to Wuornos, her character is still intriguing and the
story interesting. So far, Monster has earned Theron
a Golden Globe for best actress in a drama; Theron
also was up for an Oscar last night for Best Actress.
If you want to go see a movie that startles you and
makes you think, "Monster" is the movie for you.

Cracker Barrel
There are not many places where you can sit and
eat a good, country meal in front of a cozy fireplace.
Cracker Barrel happens to be one of those places.
Enter through the country general store and get
transported to a colonial time period to get to the
restaurant. Each wooden table has a burning candle
that adds to the quaint ambiance. It also has the IQ
test wooden-peg game to entertain you while you wait
for your food.
As for the food, it is very affordable and there are
many country-cooked dishes that allows you to choose
from a variety of sides. The fried chicken tenderloin
salad is out of this world and you can wash it down
with a Stewart's Grape soda served in a frosted mug.
Breakfast is served all day.
Make sure you save room for the delectable desert,
with offerings of fried apples and ice cream to choco-
late cake. Before you leave the restaurant, stop and sit
in the rocking chairs to play checkers in front of the
fireplace. The prices are right with two people being
able to stuff themselves for around $20 dollars. Walk
back through the country general store and do some
shopping before you leave. Pick up the games you can
play in the restaurant and the adorable Cracker
Barrel exclusive Ty Beanie Baby named Cornbread.
The nearest Cracker Barrel is in King of Prussia,
near the end of the Blue Route.

If you're looking for a good place to go out and eat,
Casey's Restaurant and Saloon is a place to consider.
Casey's is located at 812 N. Lansdowne Ave., directly
across from the Bond Shopping Center in Drexel Hill.
It's hard to miss with the huge sign and the big deck
out front.
Casey's has a unique setting, with its dining room
designed like a trolley car. Casey's also is decorated
with historical pictures of near by locations, dating
from a very long time ago.
If you're not looking to eat, Casey's has a nice bar
with a wooden deck outside for when the weather gets
nice. Casey's also features entertainment from local
bands.
At Casey's you will enjoy a friendly atmosphere.
The food is great, especially the chicken parmesan,
served in a relaxing setting. It is great for a family,
but if you are looking for a party, the bar is one of the
best in Drexel Hill.
