Football Offers
Needed Break
By Mike Doyle
Three touchdowns by Jeff Danzi
and two by Eric Ruet and another
strong game by quarterback Bryan
Shia, led Team 2 to victory over Team
5 recently in the intramural flag
football championship. Team 2 edged
out team 5 in overtime to win, 5-4.
Team 5 seemed to have Team 2's
defense guessing, but couldn't pull it
out in the end. Even with two brilliant
defensive plays in the last drive by Bill
Peoples, Team 5 was only one catch,
which bounced out of the hands of
their receiver, away from evening up
the score again.
Five teams made the playoffs this
year. Team 2 finished in first place in
the regular season and had a bye into
the championship game. Three teams,
teams 6, 9, and 4, all finished tied for
second place with a7-2 record. Team 5
came into the playoffs at 6-3. Team 5
defeated Team 6, and Team 4 defeated
Team 9 in the first round. Team 5 then
upset Team 4 to advance into the
championship.
John Amoroso, a third semester
student from Team 2 said, “We played
a great game. We shut them down
with some big plays, and everyone
contributed. Our offense was there
for us again like it has been all year.”
Bill Peoples, a fourth semester student,
commented about intramurals, “They
are an opportunity to take a break from
school, get outside, and compete with
our fellow students.” John also left a
message to anyone in the league who
might think Team 2 has had its fill of
success. ” We'll be back in the spring
to defend our title. I dare anyone to
challenge us.”

New Faces, Four Returnees
Pose Challenges for B-ball
By Gregory Reichard
Another basketball season has
dawned on campus. If you are a
regular fan of the Penn State Delco
squad, it would be in your best interest
to pick up a program at the door to
familiarize yourself with all the new
faces. Gone from last year’s twenty
five win season are nine players (four
starters), with only four returning.
The players back for their final
Declo campaign are guards Jeff Danzi
and Craig Perry and forwards Brian
Shia and Rob Duffy. Danzi, the most
experienced and most productive last
season, will be asked to run the offense
and carry much of the scoring load.
This year’s crop of talent may
force head coach Bill Wiley to change
his philosophy from year’s past. This
isbecause of a lack of dominant inside
presence. The team does not have a
“true” center and this may change the
thinking on both offense aand defense.
If fans think that this will be a
rebuilding year then they are kidding
themselves. It may not be easy to
replace nine players, but this program
under Wiley has not seen a losing
season in a long time. With the
improved Shia, Duffy, and Perry and
starter Jeff Danzi returning, this team
will be better than people think. Coach
Wiley thinks the key to this season
will be discipline. “This ream will have
to avoid committing ‘stupid’ fouls, and
now shot selection becomes
important,” coach Wiley emphasized.
Soccer Season
Ends As Team
‘Starts Developing’
By Mike Doyle
Even with a big win over PSU
Scranton on October 14, Delco’s soccer
team missed the playoffs and finished
a disappointing 3-11 overall, and 2-5
in league play.
Delco’s offense came alive for the
Scranton game, winning 5-0. Bob
Osborne scored twice and Zang
Doung, Abe Thompson, and Christian
Popinopulis each scored once.
Penn State traveled to Valley
Forge on October 6 to play their J.V.
team and lost, 2-1. Bob.Osborne scored
Delco’s lone goal. On October 9, Delco
lost to PSU York by the score of 4-1.
Dave Winters scored for Delco. On
October 11, Delco was shut out by
Delaware Community College at
home, 2-0. Following the win against
Scranton, Delco lost to Ogontz at home,
3-1.
Delco’s final game, one which
had to be won to keep their slim playoff
hopes alive, was lost, 2-0 to PSU Wilkes
Barre on October 23.
“The teams record isn’t as bad as
it looks,” said Zang Doung, a third
semester DUS major. “It’s a shame the
season ended so soon because we were
beginning to develop as a team.”
“Next year,” Zang said, “The team
looks strong but could be a little weak
on defense.”

Volleyball Ends in
Defeat; Out Look for
Next Year is Good
By Nicole Gibbs
Coach Robert Saba and assistant
coach AnneMarie Stanley had their
hands full this season as they worked
with a volleyball team made up of four
upperclassmen and eight freshmen.
Among the upperclassmen were
Wanda Alvarado, Jennifer Jaworski,
Jodi DelRossi, and Laurie Bittersdorf.
Despite being a young team, Penn State
Delco’s women’s volleyball players
pulled off a number of wins as they
ended their season with six wins and
nineteen losses defeating Berks,
Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Hazleton
commonwealth campuses.
Although the win-loss ratio was
against them, everyone seemed to
enjoy the season. Next year looks more
promising with the return of the
freshmen who gained experience
playing at the collegiate level this past
season.
