The Lacrosse Club begins its season with a 2-2 record, |

Practicing since the end of
February, the Penn State Delco
Men’s Lacrosse Club is half-way
through their season, with a record
of 2-2.
The opening game held on
March 22 was won by forfeit
against University of
Pennsylvania.
Yet the second game was a
total mud-slide in Ursinus
College's favor. P.S.U.’s Lacrosse
Club was left in the mud, as they
could not keep control of the ball.
The next game was against
Masters, a very experienced club
who have played with each other
Delco Says Goodbye To
MSG Russell Wilder
By Dianna Cahall
MSG Russell Wilder, after a
four year stint at Delco, will be
leaving the end of this semester.
MSG Wilder started his career in the
Army in June, 1975, as an infantry
soldier. He has only three more
years until he retires. He will be
going home in May to visit with his
family, and then he is off to
Germany.
When MSG Wilder received
his orders in Texas to go to Penn
State Delco, his reaction was one of
confusion. When he got here, he
discovered his assignment was for
R.O.T.C. His first encounter with
our campus was on a Saturday, in
October of 1988. He went into the
main building and only found one
person in the office, so assumed that
the person was a secretary. He
asked where he could find Major
Chubinski. He eventually got in
contact with Major Chubinski, and
as for the secretary, it was Dr. Adam
Sorkin.
MSG Wilder said in an
interview that the students on this
campus have greatly influenced. He
believes that they are the most
important aspect of this campus and
are not taken care of properly. MSG
Despite Troubles Delco’s
B-ball Team 1s Dedicated
By Roger Lee
PSU Delco’s baseball team is
dedicated to succeed. The players
are building a new foundation. New
head coach Rick Stoutamyer is one of
the important building blocks.
Coach Stoutamyer has a positive
attitude towards the team: “The guys
that are still with the team are
extremely dedicated,” says
Stoutamyer. “We're looking at
having about a dozen players right
now. Twenty-three guys registered
for the team; some guys dropped by
the wayside due to bad grades or
work commitments, a couple of guys
just quit, which is bad character on
their part.”
The team’s record is 2 wins
and 8 losses, and in the league they
are 1-5. “We can compete with other
teams that are faced with the same
circumstances that we're face with,
and we've done well. Four of our
losses were to teams that really are
out of our caliber. They have
programs that give them a lot more
money and talent pools.”
The coach says the team has
gone through a lot of hard work and
adversity when playing other teams
that have 18 players. Stoutamyer is
confident about future games: “The
nice part about this team is that the
guys that we are really counting on
should all be coming back. Most of
the key players of the nucleus of this
team are freshman. We have a few
blue chip players, but the rest are
learning as we go.”
Stoutamyer was requested to
coach here by Tiz Griffith. He has
umpired in high school through
college. He has coached teams in the
16-18 year-old range, and in the Babe
Ruth League he has gone to baseball
championships in Scranton.
The team is looking forward
to playing against Delaware County
Community College, because the
first planned game was rained out.
We are playing a second games
against Neumann (win), and
Williamson (loss).
Since this is the first season
Stoutamyer is at PSU Delco, “I kind
of count on Assistant Coach Jim
Diskin to give me scouting reports
about these teams, because he’s seen
them all before. He knows baseball
inside out.”
This year there are no
disciplinary rules, says Stoutamyer,
“We don’t have enough players to
have discipline problems.”
Wilder stated that if one of his cadets
is hurt he will do whatever is
neessary to take care of the problem,
because they are important to him.
MSG Wilder has taught
many things to his cadets. When
asked what he learned from his
cadets, he answered ,”It’s never to
late to learn, and things are not as
bad as they appear.” There is a close
relationship with his cadets. The
cadets feel the same way about him.
In an interview with several
students in the R.O.T.C., many
agreed that they feel the same
towards MSG Wilder. Sylona Reddi
described MSG Wilder with one
word, “absolute (perfect, complete,
not limited by restrictions).”
The Rangers also described
MSG Wilder as their Hero. Rich
Clifford said, “Without Top, the time
spent at PSU Delco would be an
empty experience.” Jeff Hoagland
had this to say about MSG Wilder:
“Even though I've only known him
for two years, he has had more of an
impact on me than anyone I've
known in my life.”
It is clear that MSG Wilder
has had an impact on the cadets in
the R.O.T.C. unit, and he will leave
an impression on the campus for
for many years. Penn State
showed great improvement from
their game just three days prior at
Ursinus. Even after a fight broke
out between two players (when a
member from Masters was unable
to control his behavior), P.S.U. was
able to perform well, with good
stick handling and consistent
experienced players on the field.
The game was lost by only two
points, with a 9-7 outcome.
The first earned win by Delco
was against St. Joseph University
at home. With a lack of
substitutes, St. Joe’s was quickly
overrun by a score of 7-2.
Penn State will meet with St.
Joseph’s again for, undoubtedly,
another triumph a week later.
Three games are still left to be
played at home. So if you're ready
to witness the most exciting
contact sport today, come out and
join the fans to cheer P.S5.U’s
Lacrosse Club on to victory.

many years. On behalf of the
campus I would like to wish him
good luck and safe travels in his
future endeavors. :

Campus Tennis Center
Is Planned for Fall
By Chuck Spector
Last year, Penn State Delco
received a grant of $650,000 from
the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith
Memorial Fund. This donation has
been designated for building an
outdoor, eight-court tennis center
on the empty field between the
Commons building and the
Library.
The ground-breaking
ceremonies were held last
semester, and construction was
supposed to be completed two or
three months later.
However, as you can see,
the building has not yet gotten on
its way. As of now, the campus is
still trying to obtain a contractor's
bid that fits the budget.
Joseph Biscontini, Regional
Director of Development and
University Relations, speculates
that construction should begin in
May, with the project hopefully
being finished by late July or early
August.
If this projected schedule
holds true, this year’s freshmen
will get a chance to enjoy the new
multi-court tennis center.
